Valley Folk Music
Virtual Zoom Sings
We continue hosting a Virtual Valley Folk Sing on Zoom for singers in the folk community, even though are live concerts have resumed.
Our aim was to bring some US and UK singers together to sing for each other. Sometimes, we discuss the songs. For this cross-Atlantic bunch, it became a perk of the lockdown to be able to sing and visit in this way. We have become a tight community, but there is always room for new folks to join. We have been supporting each other with music through family illnesses, aging parents and other hardships, including the sad deaths of two of our very talented singers. We have become quite fond of each other and some people have even met up in person, despite the long distances from California, several locations in England, as well as Scotland and Wales, a few places in New England, Washington DC, Ithaca, Rochester and other cities in NY State and NJ as well as some local Corning/Elmira people.
We chose the 3-6 PM in NY / 8-11 PM UK time to suit some people who are not working long hours in the US, while not keeping the UK singers up too late. Some people join before or after work as it suits them, so you can still participate even if you just have one hour instead of three.
We welcome any type of folk song, traditional or newly composed “in the tradition”. Unlike in person, we are not insisting on a chorus. Sing unaccompanied or use an instrument.
Be sure to set your device for “Turn on Original Sound”. Turning off the device’s Automatic Volume Adjustment is another good setting in Zoom, so you can make dynamics and not trust it to the computer. See below for more tips on using the Zoom software.
Any questions? Please contact us for help (preferably the day before the Sing, not during!).
